Having done the test, total up the points. The creators have estimated that if it comes to seven or more points then you probably are a "Highly Nicotine Dependent Smoker" (seriously addicted). Since it may not just be the nicotine that causes addiction, it ought to be Nicotine(+). The plus representing other chemical compounds in the smoke that might also prove later to be addictive.
Nicotine replacement therapy is currently being touted as the best cure. Can it work? Nobody thinks that giving heroin to heroin addicts is a good cure, or a very bright idea. Are smokers different in some way ? maybe, maybe not. That is part of the ongoing research. Maybe nicotine inhalers, gum or patches will work for you.
